The US legal business Elevate has purchased the UK-based flexible lawyer firm Halebury, creating a combined business of over 1,000 staff and $70m in annual revenue.
Halebury, as an ABS, will continue to operate under its own name and branding in the UK.
Elevate provides legal technology, consulting and flexible lawyering to in-house legal departments and law firms. They have a partnership with Hogan Lovells since last year, through which they provide the UK office with pre-vetted lawyers for specific projects.
This is Elevate’s third major deal since mid-2018. It has also acquired the AI company Lexpredict and contract management company Sumati Group.
What does this move show? The demand for flexible lawyering is increasing. There is a growing demand for lawyers working on a short-term basis as well as a want for more lawyers working in-house, rather than companies outsourcing to private practices.
